Bios
Enrique Arriaga
(Ciudad de México, 1982)
Artist, curator, educator, and experimental musician based in Mexico City. He studied visual arts at the ENPEG La Esmeralda and has participated in exhibitions and performed in Mexico, Europe, and United States.
In his practice, he explores the re-naming and re-membering of objects and subjects thru a process of research and experimental activation of the archive. He also practices, reviews, and promotes a relationship between art and sound, drawing from an experimental focus that emphasizes self-exploration, free improvisation, and autodidactic methods.
He worked in the field of education and documentation at inSite / Casa Gallina, Museo Tamayo, Museo Universitario del Chopo. He currently works as a collaborator at Estudio Amorales, as the commissioned studio for the 57th Venice Biennale Mexican Pavilion. Enrique was the lead project manager.
Amauta García
(Ciudad de México, 1983)
Artist and designer based in Mexico City. She holds an MFA in Science and Arts for Design from the UAM, and a BA in Visual Arts from UNAM, both in Mexico City. She was part of the third Seminar of Multiple Media coordinated by José Miguel González.
In 2015, she co-founded and coordinates the project B’ede, a program of art and education for the hñähñu community that lives in the Sierra Gorda of Guanajuato. Following her interest in art and education, in 2011 she became part of the collective Tráfico Libre de Conocimientos.
Her work has been featured in national and international exhibitions in Mexico, Cuba, and the United States. Among her exhibitions, she participated in “Modos de Ver” at the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (2018), “Contested City Mexico” in the Centro Cultural Tlatelolco (2015), the 11th Havana Biennial (2012), the Instituto Superior de Arte with the intervention Caja Negra + TAE (2012).
She has published articles on art and education for Tabebuia IPÊ Indios Pensamento Educacão eEnside and outside, and the Wrong Wrong Magazine.
She was awarded the grants Jóvene Creadores by FONCA, and Bancomer-MACG 2016-2018.
Iván Martínez
(Ciudad de México, 1981)
Artist and designer based in Mexico City. He studied a BA in Graphic Design in the UAM, Xochimilco, and an MFA at the ArtEZ Werkplaats Typografie and the Dutch Art Institute in Arnhem The Netherlands. He was a close collaborator at Studio Amorales in Mexico City, and a researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
As part of his practice, he is interested in storytelling and the metaphor as a place of exploration. His works and publications have been presented in places like The New York Art Book Fair, New York; Le Ateliers, Amsterdam; Casco – Office of Art, Utrecht; Casa do Povo, Sao Paulo; The Showroom, Arnhem; The Box, Arnhem; The Museum of Mexico City; Centro Cultural Tlatelolco, Mexico City; The Venice Biennale; among others.
From 2013 to 2015, he was awarded the FONCA-CONACYT grant for Graduate international programs. He is the current designer for The New Cabaret Voltaire.
Antonio Monroy
(Toluca, 1984)
Artist and educator lives and works between Mexico City and Toluca. He studied a BA in Visual Arts at the UAMex. He founded the initiatives Bizonte in Toulca and Tlatelolco Central in Mexico City.
His multidisciplinary work explores the spatial representation of human relationships and territory, taking as a point of departure concepts such as game, catastrophe, and community. His work has been presented in Mexico, United States, and England.
His project Segundo paisaje de sombras won the acquisition price of the XI Monterrey FEMSA Biennial. He was awarded the grants Jóvene Creadores by FONCA, and Bancomer-MACG 2016-2018.
Juan Pablo de la Vega
(Mexico City 1986)
Artist, mathematician, and photographer based in Mexico City. He received his Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and his Diploma in Photography from Academia de Artes Visuales. He holds an MA in Interactive Media: Critical Theory and Practice at Goldsmiths College, London.
His main research areas are knowledge creation and transfer via artificial intelligence techniques, particularly deep learning algorithms, computer vision and image ontology, and the struggle between technology adoption and the surrender of privacy. His work has been presented in Mexico, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He worked for the German Institute of Artificial Intelligence. He is currently working in the Studio of Emilio Chapela and collaborating with Torschlusspanik, a workshop for technical and conceptual research in the production of contemporary art in Mexico City.
Andrea Valencia
(Mexico City, 1987)
Art historian and independent curator based in New York City. She is an MA Candidate in Curatorial Practice from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and an Art Historian from Casa Lamm in Mexico City. She specialized in collection management in New York University.
Her work curator is based on close as collaboration with artists, developing new projects and
commissions. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and cultural projects within institutions and as an independent cultural agent. From 2009 to 2013 she worked at The National Museum of Art (MUNAL) in Mexico City as assistant curator where she collaborated in several exhibition projects and researching the collections. From 2014 to 2015 she was Administrator of the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York where she worked in the annual program of the institute and curated the first show of its collection. In 2015 she joined the office of International Affairs of The National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico as Liaison Manager for international projects in diverse disciplines. From 2016 to 2017 she was Coordinator of the Pavilion of Mexico in the 57th Venice Art Biennale.
